MAKING WINCHESTER CLEANER, SAFER AND BETTER FOR BUSINESS

At Winchester BID we undertake numerous projects to ensure Winchester remains a clean, safe and welcoming destination for shoppers and visitors, and a profitable place in which to conduct business.

Our work is divided into 4 key categories to achieve our aim as a Business Improvement District (BID). Please follow the link s in the drop down section of this page.

If you would like any more information on any of the BID projects, please get in touch.

Winchester BID also co-ordinates other partnership projects such as the Winchester Business Excellence Awards, Winchester Christmas light switch on event, Diverted Giving and The Winchester Business Exhibition and Networking event.

CURRENT BID PROJECTS

Chewing Gum Removal

To date over quarter of a million pieces of chewing gum have been removed from the Street of Winchester. In addition areas such as the railway station approach have been chewing gum proofed preventing large build ups of chewing gum in the future.

Graffiti Removal

Winchester BID aims to keep Winchester graffiti free. So far we have removed over 650 graffiti tags from the city centre. We have teams out nearly every week searching for graffiti and removing it with specialist kits.

If you see any graffiti in Winchester city centre please report it to keith@winchesterbid.co.uk or via Twitter: @winchesterbid for prompt removal.

PubWatch

Winchester PubWatch seeks to make Winchester's evening economy as safe and enjoyable as it can be. PubWatch, although funded and coordinated by Winchester BID, is run by the licensees of Winchester. As well as operating a successful exclusion order scheme (Banned from one, Banned from all), PubWatch also features a radio link connecting pubs and bars to Winchester's CCTV operators, local Police, PCSO's, ACSO's, Neighborhood Wardens and  the BID team.

PubWatch undertakes a number of initiatives and operations each year, including sniffer dog operations, student safety projects, SSHH (Silent Students Happy Homes), Designated Driver campaigns and much more.

Winchester Pubwatch recently came second in the Responsible Drinks retailing Pubwatch of the Year award. Steve baker, Chairman of National Pubwatch said: "Winchester PubWatch is a shining example of what can be achieved through partnership working and a can do attitude."

Shopwatch

The Winchester Shopwatch scheme has gone from strength to strength. In January 2009 Shopwatch launched an exclusion order system to reduce retail crime and anti social behaviour with the city centre. Under the new exclusion order, subjects that have been cautioned or arrested for retail theft or anti social behaviour within the city can be banned by general agreement from entering over 55 Shopwatch member premises. The ban stands for up to 2 years.

Diverted Giving

Winchester's Diverted Giving scheme seeks to encourage people to place money in strategically located charity boxes rather than in the hands or hats of beggers. As well as generating over £10,000 in donations since the project began, the scheme's primary objective is to reduce active begging on the streets of Winchester, therefore helping to promote the city as a desirable shopping destination.
