Winchester Community Safety Partnership has launched its Christmas anti-crime campaign.
WCSP is launching counter-measures against theives in the run-up to the festive season.High-visibility patrols will be undertaken in the busiest shopping areas and around pubs and clubs in the evenings.Initiatives include beat surgeries in which lanyards will be handed out to make purses and bags more secure.
Leaflets and timers for controlling individual domestic lights will be given out to remind people about the risks of leaving houses in darkness when they are not home.Crime prevention advice will be handed out in some of the city car parks.
Winchester Business Improvement District’s Christmas Party Survival guide provides tips for safe and sensible Christmas parties.
To raise awareness about the drink-driving campaign, soft drinks will be available for free in some licensed premises for designated drivers. Key rings and posters will also be used highlight the campaign.
Cllr John Cooper, city council portfolio holder for communities, safety and public health, said: “As the Community Safety Partnership chairman, I welcome the opportunity to work with the police, Hampshire County Council and other officers on what I consider to be a very important campaign.
“The CSP has had a number of successes over the last few years so we want to build on those and develop other more innovative ways of engaging with those participating in the festivities”.
WCSP includes the county and city council, the police, the police authority, Winchester PubWatch (coordinated by Winchester BID), the fire and rescue service and Hampshire Probation Trust.
