Back for the 4th year and bigger and better than ever before. The historic Inner Close will be transformed with more than 90 pretty wooden chalets beautifully decorated and oozing with delightful Christmas goodies. Within the Christmas Market you will find a festive Food Court, British Crafts Village, Father, Nativity Scene and Christmas Grotto. Open from 10am – 6pm Sunday – Wednesday & 10am – 8pm Thursday – Saturday. Opening times for the grotto will differ, please visit www.winchesterchristmasmarket.co.uk for details.
ICE RINK
27 November – 3 January, Winchester Cathedral
Nestling amongst the Christmas Market (until 20 December) and at the foot of the Cathedral, this large real open-air ice rink couldn’t be in a more wonderful setting. Perfect for families, groups, celebrations and office parties! The adjoining Ice Rink Café has received an Alpine-style make-over offering homemade soups, mountain casseroles, apple strudel, gateaux, mulled wine and hot chocolate – a great treat after an hour’s skate! Sessions last for 1 hour which includes time to change into skates. Ice Rink Tickets (includes free skate hire): £9.20 adults, £7.20 concessions, £30 family (2ad/2ch)
PAPER LANTERN PROCESSION
27 November at 6.30pm, Winchester
To celebrate the opening of the Christmas Market and Ice Rink, hundreds of people are expected to attend this spectacular parade. Starting at the Great Hall this dazzling array of coloured lanterns and proud followers will make their way through the High Street to the Cathedral. In order to take part you will need to create your own paper lantern by attending one of our workshops or following the instructions on www.winchesterchristmasmarket.co.uk
CHRISTMAS & TWILIGHT TOWER TOURS
28 November - 24 December, Winchester Cathedral
Join our experienced Tower Guides and venture up into the Cathedral's impressive roof spaces and to the top of the tower. Spectacular views across the city and over the Cathedral's Christmas Market (until 20 December) and Ice Rink. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, these tours include a large number of steps (a good way to burn off a few mince pies!) and some narrow walkways.
Christmas Tour tickets: £8.50 includes a cup of tea/coffee and mince pie in the Cathedral Café. Twilight Tour tickets: £13.50 includes mulled wine and mince pie in the historic Undercroft.
